Behind the Print

In Polynesian cultures, artisan craft is about recording the journey. We give thanks to the ancestors who recorded their journey before us. TAV honours this tradition through each of our distinctive prints.

Arikiriki

“Arikiriki te moenga — you are welcome here, we’ve made a place just for you.” A gesture of shared warmth and connection, expressed through symbolism such as the Moenga (Woven Mat), and ‘Akaipoipo, a symbol of togetherness and unity, representing an unbreakable bond. It speaks to the enduring strength found in shared love and belonging.

‘Akaanga

‘Akaanga, meaning revitalise, pays homage to the traditions of mark-making throughout the Pacific, expressed through the intricate shapes of Nuku Hiva (The Marquesas Islands). Featuring Tätatau, a delicate Marquesas design reminiscent of a facial tattoo. It’s an everlasting reminder to carry the memory of your journey with pride.

Oceania

Tikitikitangata — an ancient design and reminder of unity and community reflected through people holding hands and standing together as one. Our Oceania design is a celebration of the many voices and traditions that span the Pacific, each distinct, yet woven together by shared values and the ocean that connects us.

Ura

Ura is to dance — to tell stories written in the body. Every gesture holds emotion and history: joy, struggle, belonging. Our Ura print embodies dance as a ritual of remembrance and resilience. Guided by the rhythm of drums that echo through time, dancing becomes a bridge to our past and a celebration of our shared humanity.

Taporoporo

Honouring the principle of Taporoporo, Pacific traditions recognise the deep responsibility to care for and live in harmony with the natural world. Embodied in this print through the careful balance of natural forms, including the Are Mango (Sharktooth) — a symbol of protective strength, embracing the spirit of home — housed in courage, resilience and deep ancestral connection.
